Laser welding is a technique for visual decorations on covers or as a connection method in visual assemblies. Welding can be traditional visible seam welding or seamless welding where the welding area has been removed. With seamless welding it is possible to create strong and thin case structures. Seamless welding can be used with stainless steel and aluminum.
Seamless welding enables firm assemblies and light dimensions at the same time. The welded structure is durable; the penetration of welding is as thick as the attached parts and still the structure itself is thin and light. This guarantees more freedom at the design phase. Thinner and more rigid structures in mobile phone frames and covers also improve the touch and feel of the mobile device.
– Seamless welding is a good option for durable, shockproof covers. The cover structure will be even stronger with welded stainless steel than a forged aluminium cover. A seamlessly welded mechanical cover itself is also airtight and waterproof, says innovation manager Jukka Hyvärinen .
