New metal & plastic integration technologies available for market in June

Adhesion moulding and Nanomoulding technologies enable more design freedom with a bonding between metal and plastic part without mechanical fixtures.

Bonding is based on pre-treatment of metal before injection moulding. This enables plastic to stick into metal part in injection moulding process eliminating the assembly process. Technologies are suitable for example to adding plastic fixing elements on back-side of visual metal covers or integrating structural metal and plastic parts without mechanical bonding features. For product designers this provides a totally new way to combine metal and plastics in their products.

Adhesion Moulding is developed for stainless steel and suitability is now being tested also for PVD coated stainless steel. Suitable treatments for aluminium will be tested next. The demonstrators have passed the pull-out and damp heat & temperature shock tests, and manufacturability is developed at the moment. Solution for other materials, like Magnesium and Zinc can be developed based on the demand.

In addition to Adhesion Moulding LITEONMOBILE has been working on another integration technology called Nanomoulding. This technology is suitable for integrating aluminium and plastic parts, thus complementing LITEONMOBILE integration offering to cover both main metal materials used in mobile phones, stainless steel and aluminium.

Both Adhesion Moulding and Nanomoulding technologies are available for market and ready for mass production in June 2009 and possible to produce at all production plants. Please contact Kimmo Kurvi for further details.
