More Muscle for Product Design with Sasken Co-operation

Product design is one of the main areas of focus for LITEONMOBILE. With this in mind, the company took a giant leap forward following the announcement last August of close co-operation with Sasken, one of the world’s biggest design service suppliers for mobile device vendors. Working with Sasken not only gives LOM more strength for joint R&D, but also enables customers to launch more products than they would if all the work were done in-house.

Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd. is a global provider of software and support services for the communications industry. LOM and Sasken now operate with a combined design team of over 1500 engineers.

This enables LOM to expand its offering to customers from in-house antennas and mechanical design to full-scale hardware design, software design and product verification services.

It also brings to the table Sasken’s long-term experience from working closely with industry leaders as well as an approved supplier status to help build future growth.

– R&D has always been a foundation for LOM’s business growth. What is new from the last couple of years is our focus on product design, where we have invested internally in both resources and design/validation equipment. With our Sasken partnership, we gain not only extended capacity but also expertise in both hardware (HW) and software (SW) design, helping us to serve our customers even better, says Brian Lin , VP, LOM Product Development.

Future game changer

According to Lin, LOM is working with Sasken on all joint R&D projects – with particular focus on eJRD (extended JRD) and fJRD (full JRD), where Sasken's experience in HW design and SW development will be of tremendous value to the company and its customers.

– With the co-operation, LOM is initially targeting closer collaboration with its key customers in particular, but the partnership could be extended to include all customers in the future, Lin notes.

For LITEONMOBILE, the collaboration arrangement is seen as a clear game changer that will help speed up the company’s JRD capability implementation significantly.

– LOM is a relatively new player in the joint product design field and is still growing in its design expertise and capacity. The Sasken partnership gives LOM an instant boost in both areas and launches LOM into a leading position within the preferred joint design suppliers to our key customers.

– Our mutual goal is to increase our business footprints across the mobile phone manufacturing segment. By leveraging Sasken’s R&D experience and reputation, LOM should be able to win more JRD cases and thus increase its share-of-wallet within the existing customer base. LOM and Sasken have agreed on an aggressive timeline to jointly create and exploit available business opportunities, says Ritesh Agrawal , General Manager and Head of Sales in Europe at Sasken.

– Collaboration has already started in the area of RF performance testing, which is related to product validation. The next step is to fill project management positions inside the LOM R&D organization with Sasken people. This indicates that we are entering into a true partnership mode.
