LOM improves its mechanism capabilities

LITEONMOBILE and a Korean mechanism design company RND Company have signed an agreement on the transfer of 13 engineers to work for LOM. LOM also has a new partner Shell-Line for the design and manufacturing of mechanisms.

RND was previously part of LOM’s partner ecosystem and LOM has worked with RND Company since November 2009. The RND team has made several projects for LOM’s customers, who have been very satisfied with their design work. LOM also acquired certain mechanism patents as part of the deal.

– This agreement and the new team is a key part in implementing our strategy, since the mechanism concepts can work towards acquiring a complete project, says Juha Sepponen , BCU Mechanisms Director.

The former RND team will stay in Suwon, Korea, where they will form the LOM Mechanism Suwon Design Office. This strengthen up significantly the Business Creation Unit (BCU) Mechanisms, which is be responsible for business development, technology development, new technology industrialization, process and quality development, and ecosystem partner management in the area of mechanisms.

– The design of new mechanisms and concept design in close collaboration with LOM’s Product Development will enable to design even complete slider phones when needed, says Juha Sepponen.

New partner Shell-Line complements the offering

Korean mechanism company Shell-Line fulfils LOM’s mechanism offering. Shell-Line was founded in 2001 and focuses on mechanism development and manufacturing. Its manufacturing sites are in Daegu in Korea, Tianjin and Huizhou in China and Hanoi in Vietnam, and its headquarters is in Daegu, Korea. The company employs approximately 1000 persons, of whom 50 are dedicated to design.
