Lite-On Mobile’s Beijing manufacturing site has recently been equipped with a series of new technologies that fulfill our customers’ specific needs, including Laser Direct Structuring (LDS), two-tone Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), and Selective Non-Conductive Vacuum Metallization (S-NCVM).
Two-tone PVD provides stainless steel with two PVD color effects, such as a logo with a glossy silver effect or substrate color effects. Two-tone PVD also enables hard coating and color applications on stainless steel, while still preserving the metallic quality. The hard coating applied on metal is resistant to scratches and corrosion. The first two-tone PVD program started mass production in June 2012 at the LOM Beijing site. Recently, two-tone PVD technology has been extended to plastic components, maintaining the same shiny effects as was on metal.
S-NCVM is a newly developed decoration technology for plastics, in which selective areas of a 3D surface can be metallized. This process yields spectacular, high-resolution patterns with one or more metallic colors. S-NCVM is now available at the LOM Beijing site.
The S-NCVM process takes a bit longer than other plastic decorations, and includes primer (with color), base coat, NCVM, laser marking, middle coat (with color) to top coat.
LDS enables 3D antenna pattern design, allowing the use of antenna pattern areas that were not previously possible. LDS antennas generally have a higher RF performance than traditional antennas like FPC- and sheet metal antennas. This makes them easy to tune and they can be used for all types of mobile phone antennas. The LOM Beijing site produces both Stand Alone LDS antennas and Mechanical Integrated LDS antennas, such as In-mold and 2k LDS.
