Lite-On Mobile’s new helical feed antenna is an ideal solution for devices that require a very small, thin antenna with exceptionally good bandwidth and RF performance.
Lite-On Mobile recently developed the helical feed antenna, a new type of full-function antenna ideal for handheld devices, covering all relevant frequency bands and with excellent RF performance.
This new helical feed concept is smaller and requires less space than anything currently on the market. Its unique feed set-up enables the compact design, and with the 4x10x50 mm antenna it covers all frequency bands, including LTE with a return loss better than -6dB for 700-960MHz.
The antenna uses unique dual-feed technology, consisting of a special helical coil and an additional radiating element (see picture). The concept does not require any active components, such as an RF switch, and is suitable for both on and off the ground platforms.

The inventor of the concept, Parviz Basirat, Senior Antenna Design Engineer at LOM, says: “The Helical feed antenna solution is compact and low profile, with exceptional bandwidth that is very competitive with other solutions. The small antenna volume required to cover all bands without compromising performance, is the main advantage of this concept. The tests with our prototype show very promising results.”
