For more than two years Lite-On Mobile has executed its vertical integration strategy by offering a wide variety of technologies in different commodity areas. In order to be best in class in all of these commodities LOM has invested heavily to have the selected technologies and competencies in-house, and by having true collaboration & partnership with a number of world class eco-system partners that are industry leaders in their special fields. With this broad understanding of different commodities, and with deep product design knowledge, LOM can offer truly innovative, integrated solutions to its customers.
The LOM Smart integration product portfolio represents an open-minded approach across different commodity areas, combining metal, plastic, antennas, light, touch modules etc. into unique integrated solutions. These integrated innovations can provide customers with significant benefits such as lower costs, simplified logistics, thinner and smaller structures, reduced power consumption, improved space utilization.
One example of this is Visual Metal Insert Moulding. The idea of VMIM technology is that plastic and metal design makes the decoration patterns on the part surface, and special effects can be made with different metal finishes (e.g. polishing, brushing, chrome finishing). Other visual illustrations can be made with different plastic material colors and part surface texture patterns.
Combining metal decorations of plastic parts in one process step sounds like a good idea. It becomes even better when you hear that this technology gives the possibility to add additional technical or mechanical functions to plastic covers. For example, the metal insert can also function as a GSM, Bluetooth, WLAN antenna. In addition to above, a steel decoration insert gives the benefit of greater stiffness compared to traditional structures.
In the field of optics, an ultra-thin, cover-integrated light module featuring nano-photonic light guide technology, as well as illuminating decoration solutions and mechanism sliders with integrated features are all examples of innovative collaboration-driven products.
